What can I do about thin, brittle hair?
My hair is thin and brittle and breaks often. It comes out when I shampoo and when I blow dry. I have dyed it but quit because I read that dying hair can make it more brittle. I have a condition that causes my thyroid gland to slowly become under active as I grow older, and I read that thyroid problems can also cause thin, brittle hair. I use Head and Shoulder’s shampoo and conditioner because I have very sensitive skin and it keeps my head from itching, and I condition every day. I rarely use a flat iron or curling iron. Is there a better shampoo and conditioner, a product, or anything that I can use or do to my hair to repair and prevent further thinning and breakage?
I have been to a doctor about the thyroid condition but my symptoms are "not severe enough" to put me on hormone replacement therapy yet. Also, if you know of an inexpensive product that works or a "home remedy," if you will, that’d be great. I’m a college student with a job that pays monthly and I just started. Thus, I’m broke!

You should try using an all natural shampoo/conditioner. Head and shoulders has a high concentration of sodium which is suppose to aid in dandruff relief but, I have found that it actually makes my head itch worse and gave me little bumps.
You should try out Henna Hut’s all natural products, they have hair dye, shampoo and conditioners that are just wonderful. They have a few different types of shampoo/conditioner for you to choose from. I use the aloe vera combo and just love it. No more itchy scalp or little bumps! The aloe vera makes my hair thicker and stronger. they have one just for thin brittle hair.
you might want to try and switch up ur shampoo and conditioner? I love bedhead and Paul Mitchell products…Paul Mitchell especially…they have great stuff that is amazing for ur hair…so maybe try that? Hope i helped…=)
YOU CAN ALSO TRY TO BUY OIL PALM AND PUT THAT IN YOUR HAIR ONCE A WEEK. COMB YOUR HAIR BEFORE YOU GO TO BED SO WHEN YOU WAKE UP TO COMB IT IT WILL HELP IT FROM NOT KNOTTING AND FALLING OFF. SIMPLE THINGS YOU CAN DO. ALSO IF YOU EVER DO DECIDE TO CURL YOUR HAIR NEVER USE A CURLING IRON JUST YOU A ROLLER OR SOMETHING IT WILL BE A LOT HEALTHIER
herbal essenses conditioner..when you DO use a flat or curling iron on your hair, use heat protecting spray, etc.
It sounds like your problem may be much more than using the right shampoo and conditioner. Yes, you can use better shampoo that is formulated for your type of hair. I have heard that Nioxin has a great shampoo line for thinning hair.
Have you seen a medical doctor about the thyroid condition? It could be that if you treat the thryoid problem then your hair thinning and breakage will go away.
Also, consider that there are over the counter vitamins for hair and nails that might help out.
After showering put conditioner in your hair and let it dry naturally. Do not put conditioner on ur head or roots, just on your hair. Your hair then will absorb the conditioner and become thicker.
