i too was diagnosed with underactive thryoid when i was 16. there are so many signs and symptoms, weight gain, thinning hair, sensitivity to cold/heat, lowered libido, extreme fatigue, and much more. you will have to be on medication the rest of your life. it is almost like diabetes. i mean, when someone has diabetes their body (pancreas) doesnt produce insulin so they need to take in insulin. well when you have thyroid disease, your body (thyroid) doesnt produce enough of the thyroid hormone. and so you need to take the thyroid hormone in pill form. feel free to e-mail me with any questions becuase i am going through and understand your struggle and what you are going through!
Feeling cold, constipation, aches, not feeling very energetic, there are many. You can have one, several, or no symptoms. You will be tested occaisonally to see if the medication needs to be lowered or increased. You may be able to go off some day, just depends on why your thyroid is under active.
Go to webmd.com and check out under active thyroid. It will give you a list of symptoms and tells you all about it.
