i was diagnosed with this :// and before they even told me i have it, i knew i had it from lookin at my symptoms.webmd’d.sad…im always having abnormal heartbeats, arrythmia? losing lots of blood due to abnormal menstruation, im taking 325mg iron 3x day coz they told me my blood count is really low.. and levothyroxine 1 a day. .. god why me! losing hair, etc…
the thyroid association is being bought by the drug company Abbott,last year Abbott the makers of synthroid (a very inefficient synthetic drug)gave the thyroid association seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars and the association advised doctors not to prescribe natural thyroid anymore.This puts me and thousands of others like me who are very allergic to the synthetic thyroid drugs in danger of actually loosing our life.What the thyroid association is doing is a crime.
@Miaow823 Armour and Westhroid are available here in the states Walgreens has it I get it from there . ND’s have no problem prescribing it . Good luck !

Thinking back I feel kind of lucky my labs were so horrible off when I first got tested (my TSH was 122). There are so many people who are feel like crap and ARE hypo but their numbers were too close to normal.
I’ve been taking Armour (piggy pills) for about 7 years now and feel great. Too bad I (and many other) had to practically fight the medical/pharmaceutical establishment to even try the medication and stay on it.
BTW. Thank you Dr. Ferguson for letting patients even try natural thyroid. There are too many doctors who will not, unfortunately. (I’m also REALLY happy there is a great compounding pharmacy 2 miles from my house. I used Walgreens before and they kept telling me I couldn’t get the medication anymore. The compounding pharmasist said that was a load of crap lol)
@ScaperSteph, I am newly on the piggy pills as of 1 week ago. I keep hearing how hard Armour Thyroid is to find, what is a compounding Pharmacy? Luckily I have 2 months worth right now but the Doc is still adjusting my levels and my dosage will be changing.
@Miaow823, I would like to see those MD’s along with mine get Hypothyoidism and then tell us that synthetics are the way and natural products are no good. And then also tell us that T3 levels don’t matter and TSH of 3.8 is normal. Actually, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, but the damn doctors need to start listening to the patients and quit chasing the buck. Like apachejunction1 said, find a naturopathic doctor.
i agree 100%. at the moment, i am under my mother’s insurance, and i asked her to ask her MD about Armour when she went for a check up, because she too is hypo, and he said that he would never prescribe it, because it’s a hormone replacement, and we don’t need hormone replacements.

@Miaow823, that’s bizzare! And this guy completed medical school? Maybe it will take the huge numbers of Hypothyroid patients moving over to the good doctors for them to sit up and pay attention. Hopefully by then they will be left with no patients and no income. In a perfect world that how it would happen. It’s pretty scary how dumb today’s high paid doctors, lawyers, and people in power really are.
Do a search for Hypothyroid top docs. You’ll find a directory made up by patients who have found doctors who will listen to them and let them try Armour or other drugs.
They get the same pharmaceutical grade thyroid medications the big drug makes get and put it into pill form. They can mix it for whatever you need…. like if your allergic to a certain ingredient. (Or in our case can’t get a certain brand)

yes, and it doesn’t help matters that my mother blindly agrees with him, while I sit here, do my research, and prove him wrong time and time again. Because he’s a doctor, and I’m only 20 years old, his card trumps mine. It’s ridiculous when you know more than a doctor… I just have to be patient and wait for the moment that allows me to see another doctor under the same insurance.
@Miaow823, Thats how I had to find out was by doing my research on the internet, otherwise my Dr. would never have told me. Since you have been doing research, you have probably found stopthethyroidmadness . com. Maybe have your mom read some of that. Also, thyroid . about . com has a lot of great information as well as weekly newsletters. I had to put spaces in the url’s because YouTube doesn’t allow links.

I have been researching for weeks and getting little bits of awesome info from all over the net. And, I just found a Compounding Pharmacy near us, thank you so much!
Look at drlowe . com as well as the good advice above by dimewylebilly. He’s got a lot to say about this. I am hypothyroid, and follow the Eat Right 4 your type diet and it’s helped tremendously. If you are blood type O, hypothyroid is prevalent for them. Check out the website dadamo . com and you will see the diet.

I have hypo..and i take synthroid..I feel like crap on a regular basis..Chronic fatigue-is an understatement. All tests come back normal..
I’m at a loss on what to do..I’ve been pushing my Dr. lately..but..I think he sees the tests and thinks..its in my head or something..
Ive aged in a matter of months..looking so tired u know..Either way..living with this sucks..I can see and hear the frustration in ppl in this blog for sure..

i’m on thyroid meds and i’m still gaining weight?? i’m down to eating 1 meal a day..i’m never hungry and i have no energy to do anything anymore. what else could be causing this?? doc says my thyroid reading are back to normal..but i don’t feel normal and now i’ve gained so much weight i can hardly walk anywhere..please help
