My husband was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid which explains all his symptoms of lethargy, depression, sleep walking etc. Can he get discharged from the air force for this? The doc says it’s not bad enough "yet" to put him on meds, but obviously it’s bad if it’s causing him all these symptoms. What do you think?
If it helps our doctor is an idiot. She donwplays everything. He cut himself and is SUPER depressed. It is obviously bad enough for meds.

I am just diagnosed with hypothyroidism and am reading all the books but would like to hear about real results people are getting on any holistic treatments like yoga, herbs, etc (in addition to thyroid meds of course). There seem to be some very informed answers in the archives here so wondering if you have found some good forum sites. Thanks in advance!

I had the Flu last Novemember and have had chronic fatigue since. I have had two blood tests that point to Hypothyrodism. I haven’t started on meds for it yet because I have also developed serious allergies/allergy-related asthma and I am trying to get that under control first (also started after the flu and thought the chest pain was fatigue related and only after 9mos of complaining, my doctor finally got a clue). I have not had any weight gain so far but I’ve been told that it happens if the problems with the thyroid go undiagnoised long enough. My only concern about this is because a few of the women in my family have been over weight and it has been such a struggle for them for so many years. I am already struggling with debiltating fatigue and allergies I’m not sure I want to add trying to loose weight to the mix either. What has your experience with hypothyroidism and wieght gain/trying to loose the weight been? Any advice?

I’m 26, one child, and healthy aside from some symptoms of underactive thyroid….. Only reason I suspected thyroid is my mom and both her sisters are on meds for underactive thyroid….. I have been experiencing huge fluxuations in weight, I’m cold all the time, thinning hair, fatigue despite a healthy diet and regular exercise, irregular period and occasional mild depression. Went to the doctor, he said my thyroid is enlarged but bloodwork was normal. IAnyone ever experienced this?

SORRY FOR ASKING SO MUCH
A little over a year ago I woke up from drinking and felt like shit, which usually isn’t the case. The next two months or so I started to notice that I was urinating a lot and drinking a lot more water than usual. Then I moved from Pennsylvania to Denver and really started to notice the difference. Every day I would wake up feeling as if I had a hangover. I thought it was just the altitude difference but as time went on things got even worse. So I went to the doctors to see if I was diabetic and they said I have an underactive thyroid. They gave me .05mg of levothyroxine “which isn’t a lot from what I understand” and I have been on it for almost a year now. They said I may be sensitive to high level as glucose but should just eat right and exercise. So I have a few questions
1.I’m only 21, is that normal
2.I wasn’t and still am not fat for having a “decrease appetite”
3.I still tend to get dry mouth and urinate a lot “back at sea level, Rhode island lots of humidity”
4.My meds say not to eat anything for an hour after taking it, which if I eat anything within 1.5-2hrs I usually feel like shit and get extreme dry mouth.
5.And ever since college I started to wet to bed every couple months “usually after drinking” is this because of excess blood sugar

Currently on thyroid meds but having lots of symptoms like no energy, swelling on the right side of the throat, pain and weakness of the legs, edema. Does this sound like thyroid troubles?
