if you have an underactive thyroid, does that mean you gain weight?
i am 15 and have an underactive thyroid, but iv been told that you are supposed to gain weight.
i am 5 foot 5 and 7 stone, which isnt very heavy
why am i not heavy if i have an underactive thyroid gland?? help appreciated x

I’m not sure what 5 and 7 stone measures out to in pounds, but normally with an UNDER active Thyroid, you will tend to gain weight. I have an under active Thyroid, and it sure happened to me. Now it’s difficult to get it off. So be careful, and watch your weight and exercise, BEFORE you put the weight on. I didn’t realize my Thyroid was bad, until AFTER I gained my weight. ;(
Just because weight gain is one of the symptoms of under active thyroid doesn’t mean that you WILL gain weight if you have an under active thyroid. For some people it simply means that they have a very hard time losing weight.
