My mom is 72 yrs old. On Nov 27 of last year her GP sent her to a thyroid specialist and was told that she should take this nuclear medicine RAI Pill to kill her thyroid and once that was done, they would put her on thyroid pills to control her thyroid. Since taking this RAI pill her BP and Diabetes is totally out of wack ! Her BP has gone up 218/90 . The doctor put her on Norvasc and the diabetes specialist put her on topazole. Her BP seems to be getting better but her diabetes is still bad. She started getting a really bad rash since this weekend, and her GP told her to stop taking the 4 pills of topazole for a couple of days until she gets to see her thyroid specialist next monday. My mom had her BP and
diabetes under control before taking this RAI pill. She thought she was going for a routine thyroid check up. Why are we not getting any answers from her doctors? Her GP said that he is not responsible for medication given to her from the other doctors. What is going on ?

Hypothyroid after Total Thyroidectomy

I have MS and deal with other autoimmune issues too. This VLOG was taken right after my total thyroidectomy for Hashimoto’s (10 cm on right lobe, 6 cm on left) in January 2008 and about 6-7 weeks when I had gone totally hypothyroid. Notice the puffy face: myxedema. My TSH has jumped to 40 at this point and I am extremely depressed, tired and have gained about 20 lbs. and cannot budge the scale despite almost 1-2 hours of martial arts training daily.

What can I do about thin, brittle hair?

My hair is thin and brittle and breaks often. It comes out when I shampoo and when I blow dry. I have dyed it but quit because I read that dying hair can make it more brittle. I have a condition that causes my thyroid gland to slowly become under active as I grow older, and I read that thyroid problems can also cause thin, brittle hair. I use Head and Shoulder’s shampoo and conditioner because I have very sensitive skin and it keeps my head from itching, and I condition every day. I rarely use a flat iron or curling iron. Is there a better shampoo and conditioner, a product, or anything that I can use or do to my hair to repair and prevent further thinning and breakage?
I have been to a doctor about the thyroid condition but my symptoms are "not severe enough" to put me on hormone replacement therapy yet. Also, if you know of an inexpensive product that works or a "home remedy," if you will, that’d be great. I’m a college student with a job that pays monthly and I just started. Thus, I’m broke!

I have had my thyroid in the middle of my throat and visible and have had since i was young. I have been on synthroid medicine also and been taking one every night. I have been having almost all of the symptoms of an underactive thyroid (Hypothyroidism). I have had my blood tests and everything was good. What should I do? What’s up?

Thyroid Disorder?

I have not been feeling well lately and was talking to a co-worker this morning. She suggested that I get my thyroid checked. I looked up symptoms on the net and of the 26 symptoms listed I have 20 of them.
The problem is that I have no insurance and money is tight and I hate to go have a test that is not needed. What are the chances that I am just a fat, cold natured nervous woman with dry skin and hair suffering from fluid retention, brittle nails, IBS who is always tired?
Not expecting a doctor but just use your good and functional brains and give me your unbiased opinion. Thank You
