Recently I’ve put on weight: this could well be down to lack of exercise, but the sheer amount I’ve put on, I feel, is ridiculous. In addition to this, I’m always tired, however much sleep I get, I often struggle to concentrate in College for no discernible reason and I feel really depressed sometimes. In addition to this, I have a rather embarrassing problem… Every two - four days before my period, I get a bit, er, itchy and sore down there… I thought it was thrush, but the symptoms don’t quite match up and it only ever happens just before or during a period.
I’m told that all these things can be symptoms of an underactive thyroid: what do you think?
I’m a 16 year old girl and I have an underactive thyroid gland, I found out when I was 9. I started of with just 25 micrograms now I’m on 100, but I still feel crap.. I HATE having this problem, and I hate all the side affects.. There are lots of them, one of the worst one is deep depression.. I was thinking about getting it removed when I’m a little bit older but my dad thinks it will cure itself.. ?? The thing that I’m most worried about is my singing voice, I’m a musician and all iv wanted to do was sing since I was younger.. so my question is what happens and what are the possibilities of having this operation.. Please help me. Thanks.
I found out I have hypothyroidism on July 14th. I think it started during my pregnancy (I had excessive swelling without preclampsia, was exhausted the whole time, and gained 20 lbs in ONE month).
Would/could anything happen to my son if it did happen during my pregnancy and was untreated until now? He’s almost 6 months old.
Developmental as in rolling and sitting?
What are some symptoms of underactive thyroid? and how did you treat it?
i’ve heard that drinking or eating too much soy foods can cause an irregular thyroid function, but some amounts of soy can also be good for you.
1) Does drinking too much soymilk or eating too much soy cause underactive or overactive thyroid function?
2) if so, how much soy is too much and how often should i drink or eat soy foods?
3) can an overactive or underactive thyroid gland stunt my height growth or make me stop from getting any taller?
(im only 14 and i want to get taller)
My father was diagnosed with one of the two - I cannot remember for the life of me which one it was.
I BELIEVE he gained some weight as a result - if that helps tell which one he had?
Either way, his doctor warned him that it is hereditary and that it is common in women, so I have a high chance of developing it.
He developed it in his early to late 30s I think, and he takes pills to keep it under control.
However, I want to watch for the signs of it - I know very little about it and have had little luck understanding what I find on the internet. Based on what I’ve said (not much, I’m sorry lol) can you tell which one he probably had? If so, what symptoms should I look out for?
Anything I can do to prevent it, or lessen the chances of getting it?
Thanks!
Answerer 1: I don’t get it. For hypothyroidism you stated that symptoms are both weight loss and weight gain? Is that a typo and you meant to specify an underactive thyroid, or can hypothyroidism cause both extremes?
Oh, I didn’t see you put hyper and hypo - what a stupid way to name two different things, the spelling is so close! I found out it it hypothyroidism that my father had which means he has an underactive thyroid.
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 17. My thyroid function is "normal" or at least that’s what the doctor says. I’ve been taking levothyroxine for as long as I’ve been diagnosed. I’m 22 now and even thought I’m taking the medication, I’m still having symptoms: Hair loss, Intolerance to cold and of course, weight loss. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can lose weight with Hypothyroidism?
I have had an underactive thyroid gland for nearly two years, and I’m sick of taking pills every day. Can anyone reccomend an alternative medicine to solve this problem?
Seriously!
