If you have an underactive thyroid, it's that way whether you sing, used to sing, scream and yell a lot every day or not. Maybe the fact that you were experiencing some pain was God's way of telling you to go get it checked out so that you can get some treatment for it, if need be. Now, if you have to get some of your thyroid gland removed, this may affect your voice and/or singing voice... but I wouldn't worry too much about this just yet. For now, just go see the doctor and follow their instructions and best of luck to you with your health! Singing will not affect your thyroid gland. I know as it has happened to me. Sometimes the thyroid meds will help to restore the voice. With me it didn't, but I think that's because I was undiagnosed for many years. When you test you thyroid, make sure its first thing in the morning to get the correct reading for TSH. The lab will say it doesn't matter what time you test, but it does because TSH changs throughout the day being higher while we sleep and lower around 2-3PM> It could deepen your voice if you have hypothyroidism.
